Interdisciplinary Games
Games That Foster Interdisciplinary Collaboration
COLLAB encourages a playful reflection on different backgrounds in interdisciplinary teams in order to improve communication and collaboration. With COLLAB, you can address, discuss, compare, and exchange ideas about disciplinary principles and foundations. This allows you and your research team to create good and effective communication and gain new insights.
You can play COLLAB with your colleagues in research settings or at graduate schools. It is especially helpful for new interdisciplinary research teams and when developing a new project idea. We can also facilitate workshops for conferences or help you set up your own COLLAB workshop.
We offer a free self-print package for download under a Creative Commons license (available in English, Spanish and German).

TESTIMONIALS
Dr. Tanja Bogusz, Professor of Sociology of Social Disparities at the University of Kassel
"The game facilitated interdisciplinary 'learning cabinets', which aimed to bring biodiversity researchers from different academic backgrounds into joint discussions. The questions were very stimulating for interdisciplinary exchange. Everyone felt invited with certainty to share about their own work. In this way, methods and challenges in the different disciplines quickly became clear. It was great that we got into thinking together very quickly - credit to COLLAB in a very open, friendly way."
Dr. Barbara Röckl, Kiel University
"In the setting of DenkRaum, an interdisciplinary facility for postdocs at Kiel University, the fellows immediately play COLLAB upon starting their time together at DenkRaum. Like an orientation activity, it is a great starter, ice-breaker for those who are getting to know each other, despite the advanced levels and between the diversity of disciplines. Using COLLAB allows for scientists to directly champion and challenge the aspects of disciplinary differences, such as perception of science and practice of science. The initial experience of the different reflections and questions were continuously revisited throughout later experiences at DenkRaum."
